1.I didn't like getting hit up for a donation at the end, the weekend was very short for me, I left early Sunday morning...every minute counted. Grosse Pointe is a very rich school district.

1.The food at the twenty-year was so much better.
This was like a sampling of this and that at a cocktail party, none of it well done. My family were members there, they can put on a much better show. Why was the bar smashed in the corner of the room, hard to manuever around.
Sat, Sep 11, 2010 9:55 AMFind...
2.OUTSTANDING JOB! It was a little hard to hear the presentations. It would probably be a good idea next time to introduce the dignitaries (past faculty) sooner in the evening, as there were some who didn't stay around long enough to be greeted by our class members. The sound system speakers could have perhaps been placed so as to make it easier to talk while the band was playing. Once the band started, it was hard to carry on conversation. That said, the event was terrific, and my wife and I enjoyed ourselves very much. Thank you, Committee.Fri, Sep 10, 2010 6:01 PMFind...

7.Setting was very good.

Acoustics, particularly for speeches/prizes was so poor it was annoying... therefore people couldn't focus... therefore people started talking at their table.

8.We had a wonderful time! Everything looked beautiful. Must say that the acoustics got an "F" I couldn't hear what anyone was saying. Maybe that was why people kept talking. Need a different sound system. Loved the venue and the service. Liked the smaller rooms we could go to which were quieter. Main room was so loudThu, Sep 2, 2010 11:03 AMFind...
9.Food choices were not all that healthy. I could not understand anything being said. Other than that it was a great time. The name tags with our senior pictures was an awesome idea!Wed, Sep 1, 2010 8:24 PMFind...
10.I liked it, but the band was too loud. We traveled to come so that we could talk and catch up with our long lost friends..reunite. They should have had songs from the 60's and 70's. A DJ would have been ok, volume control. Oldies, Motown, etc. We should have been able to request songs. I feel the band they had did not play to the occassion, they had their own agenda and songs.Wed, Sep 1, 2010 9:21 AMFind...
11.The sound system when people were speaking was terrible-couldn't hear much. Needed a podium or something-didn't have the attention of the audience-soo much talking when speakers were talking.Tue, Aug 31, 2010 2:47 PMFind...

21.Overall it was a great night and just wish there had been more time to talk with everyone. It would be best if dancing was in another room so folks did not have to go outside. By doing that I missed seeing fellow classmates. The Grosse Pointe Yacht Club is a beautiful place with excellent service but just not sure if we have to go so formal. A big thanks to Denise Ireland for arranging things here.Tue, Aug 24, 2010 9:48 AMFind...
22.The acoustics is awful. I can't believe the GPYC can't provide a better sound system. could have used a few more choices of food and offer the food for a longer period of time. I would have liked to have a continuous video, if one exists, of all the pictures from past years.Tue, Aug 24, 2010 9:45 AMFind...

1.See above comment. 2-3 main dishes well done would be better than a pot pourri.Sat, Sep 11, 2010 9:55 AMFind...
2.The buffet setup worked very well, as it allowed people to mingle and move around, and graze at their own pace in between fun reaquaintancing. I think a sit down formal dinner would have made interaction less spontaneous, and would have limited the amount of face time one could have with friends scattered aroung the room. Lets face it, the attraction was the interaction with friends not seen in (decades!) a long time, not the food service. The cash bar was fine, and there was reasonable variety and casualness to the food served so most people should have been able to be comfortable. The overall cost may have kept some class members away, but I've not heard anything to confirm that. As for location: this is where we have celebrated in the past, and other than opening up the cafeteria...this is the hallmark dining institution proximate to our Alma Mater.Fri, Sep 10, 2010 6:01 PMFind...
3.cash bar with heavy appetizers would have been as nice as the buffet. Tables were good, but most folks seemed to want to mingle, and sitting at tables did not encourage mingling.Thu, Sep 9, 2010 8:19 PMFind...
4.For the price of a ticket, I feel there should have been a meal served. The beef was good, but just having little plates and somewhat haphazardly arranged bowls of salad and pasta left me wondering when the food was going to arrive. The late night pizza was a good idea, but I think a lot of folks didn't know about it.Thu, Sep 9, 2010 6:59 PMFind...
5.I didn't eat much, but what I ate was good. I liked the strolling buffet. A sit down would have been too restrictive and people don't tend to roam once they are seated.Thu, Sep 9, 2010 7:10 AMFind...

7.Perfect.Thu, Sep 9, 2010 3:51 AMFind...
8.Price was on the high side, yet OK. Does the price keep people from coming? I organized a reunion for my university class and for 15% I got them to come by saying 'pay what you can'. It ended up being about $20 per person).
Can we reduce the food budget (quantity or more likely count on 'no shows' and tell the caterer we'll be 80% of X when we hope for X)?
Can we reduce the 'DJ' cost?

Food was good enough. There seemed to be way too much (?). Then dessert seemed to be available late as we were already 'full' (?).

Cash bar is fine. Maybe pay only for alcohol drinks and have an open bar with very large bottles of pop and water (and a 'fruit drink' punch bowl ?).

11.Would have liked more variety in the food offerings for the price. I liked the buffet style. I would have just preferred a larger menu including healthy cooked vegetables, chicken, etc... Cash bar was a good idea.Thu, Sep 2, 2010 11:03 AMFind...

13.Needed to have some salad and fresh fruit choices.Wed, Sep 1, 2010 8:24 PMFind...
14.1) they put out small plates
2) a buffet was ok, but organic would have been nice.
3) the beef was tough
4) Mexican food was messy to eat
5) the salad had bottled Ceasar dressing on it, not made fresh. I expected a better quality of food from the GPYC.
Pizza and spaghetti would have been ok. We paid a lot for crummy food. But the organizers did a good job and I appreciate all the work they did.

21.Cash bar is good to keep pricing reasonable. Salad bar instead of taco's, desert instead of pizza, with coffee. A vegetable choice with a main course choice . Price should be able to cover decorations and music, reception, ect. A champange reception is a nice idea..Thu, Aug 26, 2010 6:41 AMFind...
22.Overall price of reunion was too high. The food for the price was garbage. I expected more for my $75.00. Cash bar prices were too high. If thats the deal at the Yacht Club, go somewhere cheaper. 23.I liked the buffet stations...maybe a bit pricey for the quality but I liked the choices.Tue, Aug 24, 2010 6:30 PMFind...
24.I enjoyed the buffet style at several stations- fun and less formal, could eat at your leisure! Open bar would have been nice but realize would have been very expensive 'ticket-wise', so cash bar made it much more affordableTue, Aug 24, 2010 6:18 PMFind...

26.It was really very good but probably just a bit under valued for what we paid. 28.very poor choice for our age group. I would have preferred sit down or buffet NOT food stations. We should have had coffee and desert. I was very dissappointed in the menu, and it wasn"t the money it was the combination of food choices. YIKS!!Mon, Aug 23, 2010 6:06 PMFind...
29.food was ok, but at the price of the ticket, the first 2-3 drinks should have been included.Mon, Aug 23, 2010 4:15 PMFind...
30.Thought the price point was very high for food and drink provided. There were basically only a few menu items and they were typically lower cost items (mexican, italian), no dessert offered, no coffee or iced tea and I think it would have been nice to provide a couple of drink tickets with the dinner. I think the buffet was nice as it allowed people to eat when they wanted to and visit with others around the room.Mon, Aug 23, 2010 1:48 PMFind...
31.Price was too high on some items. $3.00 per soda was not realistic. Buffet was fine.Mon, Aug 23, 2010 1:08 PMFind...

1.People came to talk, not avoid the band, which kept getting louder. When you can't hear the person next to you, it rather defeats the purpose.Sat, Sep 11, 2010 9:55 AMFind...
2.See comments above: It was a little hard to hear the presentations. The sound system speakers could have been placed soas to make it easier to talk while the band was playing. Once the band started, it was hard to carry on conversation. A separate room for dancing might have solved the sound issue, but having everyone in one room did enable a lot more mingling. I always prefer live bands though a DJ would have had access to unlimited "period pieces".Fri, Sep 10, 2010 6:01 PMFind...
3.DJ playing hit songs from 1965-1975 would have been preferable to the band. Probably less expensive, too. Band was too loud. Most folks were attending for the conversation rather than the dancing, and it was quite difficult to talk/hear when the band was performing.Thu, Sep 9, 2010 8:19 PMFind...
4.The band seemed like a pick-up last minute group. The drummer was someone's son (?) and didn't have a drum set. There was absolutely no reason that the set list was so poor, so loud we couldn't talk as we danced, and they really didn't fulfill requests. The band should've known it was a 40th reunion, and they needed to play sets filled with late '60's early '70's groups...and filled in the laptop- between sets with others...Bee Gees, Rolling Stones, Dave Clark Five, Beach Boys...need I go on? It would've been better for one of us to ipod it all.Thu, Sep 9, 2010 6:59 PMFind...
5.A separate room would have been welcome. I prefer DJs with a large collection from which requests can be made.Thu, Sep 9, 2010 4:45 PMFind...
6.The band was great but to loud and to long. People are at a reunion to reconnect and talk. If you have to leave the room to be able to talk the point of a reunion is somewhat lost.
The band at South's reunion kept it down. You could actually talk and listen/dance to the band in the same room.
Thu, Sep 9, 2010 8:52 AMFind...
7.I sound like an old fogie, but when the music started, all conversation stopped. Way too loud for talking, anywhere in the room. And talking to old classmates was what I came to do.Thu, Sep 9, 2010 5:17 AMFind...
8.The band members seemed very young, oh yea, they are supposed to, this wasn't Highschool It was the 40th!Thu, Sep 9, 2010 3:51 AMFind...
9.Show more memorabilia. Project photos on a screen (projector quality doesn't need to be of the highest quality).
Perhaps we could find video clips of the bands of that era and project them while their songs are being played.
Nor sure how much the DJ cost yet we could go for just a pre-set (2-3 hour), push the button, stream of songs/video of the era.

Open up the 'back' room earlier and annonce it so people who want to talk can use it. I'd keep the music and, if people want to, dancing in the main room.

13.A lot of us wanted to talk and catch up. A separate room for dancing would have been great. Personally, I like a good DJ---it's how we used to do it! :-) This would give us a quieter venue to talk and visit and not have to shout.Thu, Sep 2, 2010 11:03 AMFind...

19.I really didn't like their song choice. It was just okay. They played some songs that were too old and I would have liked more songs from the 70's as well as some current music mixed in.Sat, Aug 28, 2010 1:10 PMFind...
20.Good creative band, however, they insisted to be heard, when all the group wanted to do was talk to each other. The band simply made talking more difficult. We didn't go there to listen to music, and the band acted like they were the most important event of the evening. Talking to someone we hadn';t for 40 years was far more important to me.Fri, Aug 27, 2010 6:00 AMFind...

34.Would have preferred to hear (and dance to) more of the GREAT music that we were so fortunate to have in our lives throughout the sixties and seventies (soul, R&B, funk, Motown, MC5, Detroit rock-and-roll, etc.) -- as well as the contemporary music scene. The band must have mistakenly assumed that we were old farts who had lost our groove; too much of their playlist focused on the kind of easy listening stuff that you play at weddings to placate the grandparents . . .Mon, Aug 23, 2010 12:16 PMFind...

1.Travelers like me left early. It was still Father's Day weekend, I got home to my family in Chicago.
The timing for South's party in August was so much better and I'll bet more relaxed. I'm a teacher, we only just got out of school the day before.

As such maybe an outdoor activity or two such as shuffle board (still there at the park ?), croquet or badmitton might be interesting if it required very little organization and cost.

You may have noticed that the numbers between this reunion and the one prior to this was very different.

1.Tacky...or should I be reminded this is Grosse Pointe? Who came up with this recommendation.
The people who live in the area, but did not come could be contacted locally with a letter -- they might have missed the email or facebook link.
Or, if you got an address, we (others) could flood them with requests to come, because they were missed. :)

4.I'm not for financial incentives in general, but it doesn't hurt if one says '$10 (or more if the economics work) if you find someone and the 'found' person comes!'.

Can someone 'find themselves' and come for half price ? If someone does a Google search on themself do they know we are looking for them and there is a 'prize' if found ? It's hard to gat the search well positioned without 'paying' yet those that keep a low profile tend not to have too many name hits anyway.

There should definitely be recognition, e.g. giving 'pairs' a prize if someone found a person and convinced them to come even if someone convinced someone else to come who wasn't ther at the 40th.
A prize for most people 'found' even if they don't all come, etc.

1.I had a good time, but I'll admit I didn't remember a lot of people. It's been a long time since I've been there. My goal after high school was to get as far away from Grosse Pointe as I could to see what the "real world" looked like.Sat, Sep 11, 2010 9:55 AMFind...

1.US Mail or telephone should be used for hard to find people, it might sway them to come to the next party

Could you choose a venue that allows for more social interaction than a high school dance?
Yes, the Yacht Club is classy, but it is a big cocktail party after all.

The worst thing I saw all night was the award for the person who had not been married the longest.
Claudette Momenee is my friend, it's unfortunate she didn't find "Mr. Wonderful," but do you have to remind her of this in front of everyone. She didn't come to the party on Friday because she is also keenly aware of her weight problem. Poorly planned -- not so funny if it were you accepted the award! (sorry, had to mention this...tacky)

However, it was a good experience, sharing was wonderful. The speeches don't have to last so long, let's just have time to chill.
